  • Fragrant Hills park is a must in Beijing! It's quite far from the city, however the transport is pretty straightforward, although a bit long. Once you get off the station you have to walk a bit to the main gate (and there are a few). Be prepared to walk a lot. It's not like mountains and trekking in Europe. To get to the to you'll go up thousands of stairs. You could also get a cable cart up and down. Whatever you choose, the view from the top is really nice. If the smog in Beijing is high, you won't see much of the city, though.
  • Another beautiful ancient imperial garden. I wonder about its original beauty if it was not ravaged by invaders and robbers. Same thoughts for the Summer Palace and Forbidden City etc.... Japanese ancient sites are wonderfully preserved in comparison.
