Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion, Santiago

4.6
Religious Site · Hidden Gem · Church
A commanding statue of the Virgin Mary dominates the landscape at Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion. Built in 1904 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the 12 m (39 ft) statue stands on a site sacred to the indigenous prior to colonialism. Visit the church to admire its stone architecture, and step inside to look for several murals and statues. From the top of the hill, you can see over all Santiago and even to the snow-capped Andes. Take a hike up the hill to get there, or for an easier time ascending or descending, ride the funicular or hire a cab. Put Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Santiago vacation planning app.
