Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts, Santiago

3.6
Appreciate exquisite paintings in a spectacular setting at Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts, the oldest institution of its kind in South America. Established in 1880, the museum moved to its current location, the Palace of Fine Arts, in 1910. Admire the ornate architecture of the colonial-style building as you move through the collection, which houses pieces by renowned Chilean artists like Luis Vargas Rosas and Roberto Matta. You might expect more pieces to fill the large building, which can seem somewhat empty. Despite this, the free museum undoubtedly warrants a visit. • The museum does not have the most incredible collection I have ever seen in a museum, but its architecture is beautiful and the space is very well cared for, in addition to being in an excellent region of Santiago, with several other nearby places of sightseeing. And the best: it's free!
