Tebinquinche Lake, San Pedro de Atacama

Water Body · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Discover how captivating the driest place on Earth can be when you add some water to it at Tebinquinche Lake. Unlike the other lagoons of the Atacama Desert--generally small pools of water--this is actually a proper saltwater lake, nestled under the towering peaks of the Andes. The mirrorlike surface reflects the surrounding scenery, making this spot famous for some of Chile's most beautiful sunsets. In the summer the lake tends to dry, leaving behind a thick layer of salt that you can easily walk on. Drive to the lake on your own, or join one of the many organized tours of the salt flats that regularly leave from San Pedro de Atacama. Before you head to San Pedro de Atacama, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly San Pedro de Atacama online road trip planner, to make sure you see all that San Pedro de Atacama has to offer, including Tebinquinche Lake.

  • Cool views, but no shade available, and you can't get very close to the water, so for us, it was good for about 20 min of looking at the reflection of the mountains on the lake, and then we moved on.  more »

  • Beautiful lake close to Salar De Atacama. Many kinds of birds here and you'll be lucky to see flamingos. Definitely worth the visit!
  • Very calm meditative place. Except for us, there was almost no one, even the flamingos did not fly 😁 On the way to the lagoon, you can see two lakes absolutely free - Ojos del solar, they are fascinating. Entrance to the Tebinquiche lagoon is 2000 pesos per person. From San Pedro de Atacama you should to drive about 40 minutes, it is better to choose an asphalt road
