Lascar, San Pedro de Atacama

#12 of 23 in Nature in San Pedro de Atacama
Volcano · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Set foot on Lascar, the northern Chilean Andes' most active volcano. Tackling the volcano with a guide is a must, because of the high altitude and the eruptive history of the site. Despite the path's gentle incline, guides set an easy pace as to protect against the effects of the high altitude, which can be draining on a long hike. See sweeping views from the summit, with the otherworldly salt lakes below appearing like mirrors among the dusty, volcanic landscape. You can't acess the volcano during periods of increased seismic activity, so check with reliable local sources before booking your tour.
