Aldea de Tulor, San Pedro de Atacama

Take a step back in time to the mesolithic era at Aldea de Tulor, an archeological site that has unveiled a settlement dating back to between 800 CE and 1,200 CE. The remains of the ancient village take the form of boreholes--circular clay walls made to collect water. Through the study of the rock layers archeologists were able to determine that the civilization disappeared due to drought. Artifacts found on the site include human and animal bones, ceramic, carbon, seashells, and rocks. Reproductions of houses help visitors fully appreciate what the village once looked like. • The place is easy to visit, it was a parking lot and it isn't crowd. I didn't like the fact of missing information about the construction or the people who lived there. Was expecting for much more.  more »

  • It was a nice little exhibit of a replica hut and a view of a few excavated houses. Really nice to think of how long ago this place was inhabited. It was however a long walk in the desert to get from the parking to the exhibit and the roads there were awful.
  • The first hunter-gatherers lived here, and you can see the impacts of climate changes. You can also see one of the most beautiful mountain ranges from this site. Of course, the admission fee is exactly the same amount as Velle De La Luna, so you could argue not to visit this site. However, in the end, we were extremely happy that we made the visit. Otherwise, when we see the famous picture of Tutor, we would always wonder what did we miss.
