Casa de Isla Negra, Isla Negra

Built on a rocky headland overlooking the ocean, Casa de Isla Negra commemorates the life and work of this world-famous poet. The residence features a ship-like interior and a number of eccentric collections, including a huge number of shells in the "Under the Sea" room. Watch the short video about Neruda's life in the lobby. Walk under the low ceilings, through narrow passageways, and across the creaking wooden floors of the rooms decorated with ship figureheads, maps, ships in bottles, masks, and wooden carvings from all over the world. See the huge tusk of a narwhal, which Neruda brought from Norway. Enter the master bedroom, and notice how the bed faces windows with a clear view of the ocean. Neruda lived in the house with his third wife, and the claim that this was his favorite residence is supported by the fact that both spouses were buried here. • Making this visit leaves you with the feeling of finding the poet behind every door and room in the house. A house whose pieces extend along with the carriages of a train, each with different themes and decoration, from the impressive bow masks to the colorful glass bottles, all as you walk parallel to the Pacific, which you keep an eye on at no time. And to end up in the Covacha, the little cubicle where Neruda wrote. The visit we really liked and I highly recommend it.

  • Of the houses that you can visit in Chile of the writer, it was the one that I liked the most!! The tour is quite interesting and you understand many things of his life and work. The sea view is spectacular!!! The museum is in perfect condition; it's easy to get to, and there's a parking lot nearby. They do not let take pictures inside the house, but they do leave the outdoor gardens. So you better enjoy the tour and every detail you find in the enclosure!!

  • Excellent exhibit of what was the home of Pablo Neruda. Stunning view of the chilean coast. Contrary to what the name of the name implies "isla" (island in Spanish) it is located on the main land.
  • This is my favorite of all of Neruda's houses, the house itself it's beautiful, but also the beach and the surroundings are lovely
