  • I have always found a beautiful place baquedano Avenue and a great idea to have turned it into pedestrian paths, with wooden sidewalks and in tone with the effort to maintain its historic houses. But there is (or isn't) something in the mind of the city's tourism authority that makes this beauty squander. While the ride is an attraction in itself, you have to execute actions that make one as a tourist stay longer in it, for example, of the locals. But it's not like that. We went to Iquique on the weekend that started the winter holidays of the schoolchildren, looking to escape the cold of Santiago. On Saturday we went to PIca, so we thought we would devote part of the remaining days touring the city and especially the pedestrian. We were informed that, after the naval museum fire, part of its permanent exhibition had been incorporated into the Tarapacá Military Museum located on the pedestrian promenade. But to our surprise it was closed. A sign on your door said "Closed Sundays, Mondays and public holidays" i.e. the three days to come. Plan "B". Regional Museum. You could only go up to the second floor to the show of a local artist. The permanent sample closed for at least four months, as indicated by the official at the door. Plan "C". We remembered that on an earlier visit there was a kind of "Grandma's Baul" where you could use yourself in the use of the glory season of the affluent families. We never found the place. We're told to work at Humberstone now. Plan "D". Stroll in the Tranvia. "He's been in detention a long time," says a local. "It looks like the engine's burned and they're evaluating it to solar," he adds. The means of transport in question is passed to urinals. Totally careless. Plan "E". Municipal Theater of Iquique. Fenced by papal fences. In a corner of its high foreparts is a guard shed. To get to it again you have to endure a strong smell of urins. "I don't have the slightest idea when it's going to reopen," the guard tells me. Conclusion: We leave for the Zofri. Just the only place we had no interest in visiting. The funny thing: I had gone on winter holidays 10 years ago, and we had spent similar with the tram and another couple of attractions. Something happens to Iquique who, having enormous tourist potential, that could even turn it into a Latin American tourist power. He just doesn't care.

  • The pedestrian Baquedano is beautiful. It's like going back to time. It has several bars and restaurants where you can eat or have a drink enjoying the scenery, there is also the theater and the clock tower, in the square. It's a bit of Iquique's story. It is very close to the sea and its beautiful coaster. Divine place.
