Climb aboard a replica of the historic steam ship and learn about the history of Chile’s struggle for domination in the Pacific at Museo Corbeta Esmeralda. Built in England in 1855, the original ship saw action in both the Chincha Islands War and the War of the Pacific. In 1879, the ship was sunk during a battle with the Peruvian ironclad vessel Huáscar, but both the Esmeralda and her captain Arturo Prat earned an eternal, distinguished place in Chilean history. Today the museum gives you the chance to revisit the iconic ship, from the engine rooms to the top deck, and experience the conditions in which the sailors and the officers lived, worked, and fought. Only a limited number of visitors are allowed on board at one time, so it’s best to reserve your tour time online or by telephone at least one day in advance. • This museum is located in the outskirts of Iquique container terminal in Chile. The museum is very beautiful and contains a lot of relics and items related to Spanish naval ships and early Chilean navy in this part of the world. It also houses a giant naval ship for visitors to have a tour of. Overall a good place to enjoy your time and relive the naval and Maritime history of the region.
