Church of San Francisco, Castro

4.7
Must see · World heritage site · Architectural Building · Tourist Spot
Originally built in 1567 to convert the indigenous people, Church of San Francisco now serves as the city's main Catholic church. Designed in the Neo-Gothic style of architecture, the church differs greatly in appearance from others in the city. Its structure consists of local wood, while the facade, roof, and external lining are all made of galvanized iron. The brightly painted exterior makes it stand out among the other buildings on the adjacent plaza. When you tour the interior, look for the image of the Archangel Michael victorious over Satan, and try to visit during a service to sit among the wooden pews and admire the stained glass windows. • As beautiful as the billing of this old wooden church in downtown - right off the center square. A lover of doors all around the world, I loved the old church doors.  more »
