Ancud

4.3
A city of 40,000 people, Ancud was the capital of Chiloe Archipelago until it was superseded by the city of Castro in 1982. Founded as a Spanish city-fort in 1767, Ancud still contains a number of historical sites, including a colonial-era cathedral and battlements, lucky survivors of a 1960 earthquake. Rebuilt tastefully along the waterfront, the city offers easy access to charming beaches, bays, and rocky cliffs tailor-made for both active and relaxed Ancud vacations. Ancud is in Isla Chiloe.
