Ancud

A city of 40,000 people, Ancud was the capital of Chiloe Archipelago until it was superseded by the city of Castro in 1982. Founded as a Spanish city-fort in 1767, Ancud still contains a number of historical sites, including a colonial-era cathedral and battlements, lucky survivors of a 1960 earthquake. Rebuilt tastefully along the waterfront, the city offers easy access to charming beaches, bays, and rocky cliffs tailor-made for both active and relaxed Ancud vacations. Our Chile journey site combines visitor reviews with your personal interests to make an itinerary informed by experts, but tailored to suit your style.
