Joffre Lakes Provincial Park, with its ice fields and rushing streams, offers an adventure all year long. In summer, the sunlight reflects against the "rockflour" glacial silt of the three lakes, creating wonderful colors. When the lakes freeze during winter, you'll find yourself in the middle of an icy wonderland. Take a hike around the lower, middle, and upper lakes all along the trail, each one more impressive than the last, with the highest one positioned just beneath the glacier. Try mountaineering, but only if have previous experience; otherwise, go fishing or camping. Feel free to bring your pets along, but only on a leash. Beautiful mountain lakes accessible for most people on a very easy 2 hour hike through the woods. Leave early to beat the rush as this is a very popular hike. more »
There are great places on earth and this is one of them without a doubt. Be prepared to spend at least half of your day, or more, but it will be well worth it. Also, know that this climb is going to be super hard on your knees, plus you'll encounter tons of bugs on your way up and down. Beautiful waterfalls at the top, you'll want to go to the very top and take awesome photos of the glacial. Walking poles are strongly recommended.
Joffre Lakes is probably my favourite hike to date. The views are incredible and definitely worth the 3 hour drive from Vancouver. Me and my brother visited Joffre Lakes in early August during the BC day long weekend. We arrived at 11:00am and the park was packed and parking was tight. There was a park ranger to direct traffic, but parking is fairly limited for such a popular park. Some park on the side off the highway which is dangerous, as the highway is quite narrow. I'd definitely recommend arriving early to find a parking spot. Me and my brother are about average in fitness level and we completed the hike round trip in 3 hours with short breaks.
