Take on the mountain course at Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club and observe the white-capped peaks of this picturesque and unspoiled place. Designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. allowed nature to dictate how the course plays out, keeping it both fun and challenging and allowing the players to traverse creeks, towering granite rock faces, and avenues of Douglas-fir trees. After wrapping up your game, grab a meal at the onsite eatery. Be aware that proper golf attire is expected at this golf club. • I spent a few days in Whistler, as I do every year. Some years I stay at the Fairmont. This year I did. It’s a lovely hotel: great amenities, pool and hot tubs are nice after a day of biking. The food I ate at the hotel lounge was bland and uninspired. That was disappointing, but I asked for some hot sauce and that made it okay. As I left my room one day, there was a painter painting my door, and a woman tearing down wallpaper across from my room. I didn’t realize I was staying in a construction zone. The BIG disappointment came when I ordered breakfast to my room and my “medium poached” eggs arrived like had boiled eggs. I didn’t have time to wait another 40 minutes for more over cooked eggs, so I told them not to bother sending more. This should have been rectified in such a property. All in all, Chateau Whistler is a disappointing food experience. Save your money and eat in the Village.
