Callaghan Lake Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada, located in the upper Callaghan Valley to the west of the resort town of Whistler. The dormant volcano Mount Callaghan overlooks the lake on its north side, while just to the south of the park is the sliding events facility for the 2010 Olympics. Callaghan Lake was to be the site of the base village for a proposed ski resort, Powder Mountain Resort, but the project never went through due to alleged interference by William Vander Zalm and others in the then-Social Credit government.Put Callaghan Lake Provincial Park into our Whistler travel planner to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Whistler.
The park was established in 1997 and expanded in 2000, currently totalling approximately 2,691 hectares.
Callaghan Lake Provincial Park reviews
We lucked out when the car hire company in Squamish could only offer us a pick up truck, as we would never have seen this beautiful place otherwise! There had been heavy rain the previous night and... more »
Rocks, potholes and small ditches to cross. Wasn't a problem for our Toyota Rav4. I think the best part of the drive was being there in the off season and seeing very few others up at the Callaghan.... more »
Incredible location, with 2 lakes. The ride is rough, but definitely worth it. We had the spot almost for ourselves, we shared it only with another camper. We crossed the lake until the other end, then hiked to the upper lake which offers a beautiful scenery. Visited September 2018
Lovely spot for camping and the lake is spectacular for kayaking. The lake was easy to get to, from the 99 highway you can turn into Callaghan Valley Road which takes about 8-10mins until you reach the Service Road on the left that takes a good 10-15min to drive due to the rough and gravel road (beware lots of potholes) and it takes you directly to the campsite of the lake. We saw a black bear along the service road and the scenery was absolutely stunning. The campsite is small with less crowd, I believe there’s only one pit toilet and you’re not allowed to start a fire outside the designated pit area. From the lake, you can see the Alexander Falls and beautiful mountains surrounding the area.
