Hibernating for the winter...please call to make arrangements for showings 403 631-2133.

Since 1996 Clem T. Gopher, his best girl Ellie-May and their kin have been welcoming groups of visitors, large and small, from around the world to 208 First Street, Torrington for an insiders look of the den.

A giant statue of Clem (he is such a narcissist) stands at the entrance of town...just to let you know you have the right place. Our displays demonstrate some of the day to day activities in and around our little hamlet. We have also included a walking tour of some or our favorite family members immortalized on the hamlets fire hydrants. Perhaps you will find some special interest in the scrapbook of letters from our friends, The Kennedy's and Peta, among others.

Due to hibernation, the museum is seasonal. However, we have some humans that would happily open up shop for you with only a phone call. So don't let the snow stop you...come on down and visit a spell!!

Nestled between the exciting cities of Calgary and Edmonton, with majestic Banff to our West, the Royal Tyrell Dinosaur Museum and the Hoodoos to our East, Torrington is the idyllic prairie landscape where you can stretch your legs and smell the fresh, country air. So what's stopping you? Gopher it!!

  • We saw it on Heartland and loved it from from afar. Where else would you find a testimonial to industrious gophers. Next time in Alberta our visit won’t be virtual. In the age of COVID I am over...  more »
  • Definitely, something to stop in at least once and view. The creativity and attention to detail stand out but some displays also show a good dose of humour. Friendly staff and a nice little town.  more »

  • This truly bizarre museum is a great reason to take the family in a little Alberta road trip. It is a small building with many mini diaramas of gophers being funny little Canadians. It is a little bit creepy, more so than your average taxidermy displays. Maybe you like gophers more than I do though? We shot part of an episode of Heartland season 10 in the museum, so that’s why I first heard of it. Taking the family this summer on our way back from the Tyrell museum for sure!
  • Best 5$ I've ever spent in my life! This place is a must visit, even if you are going out of your way. Staff is extremely friendly and always willing to have a conversion about the day or informing of their museum and its contents.
