Rockwood Conservation Area, Rockwood

#29 of 384 in Wildlife in Ontario
Must see · Wildlife Area · Nature / Park
Dense coniferous forestry and limestone cliffs and caves provide a stunning natural landscape to hike throughout at Rockwood Conservation Area. The conservation area is full of natural wonders including glacial potholes--some of the biggest in the world--which can easily be seen from canoe or kayak on the lake's surface or from the well-paved hiking trails. Along the way you'll stumble across what remains of an old woolen mill, now a popular site for wedding photography. There are plenty of benches and barbeques here. • My husband and I came here for a day of kayaking and hiking. I saw that some people were complaining that they couldn’t get in but we came right when they opened and had no issues. First we went...  more »

  • The water is very dirty and smells, kayaking or canoeing the water is great but personally I wouldn’t swim in it. We went for the day and got there around 10am which was a perfect time due to around 12-1 it got packed with people!! Tons on the beach which we could see from the water and a lot of people kayaking/canoeing. Nice place for a hike and kayak though! Just make sure you get there early to get a good parking spot
  • Beautiful serene park, camping was comfortable , very clean , well maintained, endless trails provide a great sense of nature in it`s purity. Caves to be explored , abandoned foundations of what may have been homes for the workers at the time, both the cotton Mill and those foundations could be mentioned as to their purpose -a placard maybe, including how production was ramped up during WW1 for blankets for the soldiers - the ruins are incredible to experience as is the entire area . Much to see and do if you get up from your chair and realize there is a fantastic world to be explored.
