See an immaculately preserved example of 1920s and 1930s design at Parkwood National Historic Site, former residence of General Motors of Canada founder Samuel McLaughlin. This national historic site offers guided tours through its interior and manicured grounds, all of which represent a rare example of design, landscape, and architecture from the period. Inside, browse memorabilia, trophies, art collections, and photographs in the opulent, original interior. The big highlight is likely to be the gardens, which McLaughlin--an enthusiastic horticulturist--had designed according to the Arts and Crafts aesthetic. Note the site often closes during periods of ice and snow in the garden, and film shootings here are not uncommon, so check the website before you go.
