Enter the world of colorful insects at Butterfly Conservatory, located just minutes from the world-famous waterfalls. Sheltering over 2,000 butterflies that fly freely through the lush vegetation, this modern insect zoo features a climate-controlled greenhouse, 200-seat theater, and a large gift shop. Most of the conservatory's butterflies come from farms in El Salvador, Costa Rica, Australia, and the Philippines. Special nets stretched along the conservatory's glass dome keep the fragile creatures from entangling and dying of hypothermia. Boost your chances that butterflies land on you by wearing brightly colored clothing, moving slowly, and dabbing some perfume just before entering. We were visiting Niagara Falls (Canada) for a short 1-night stay and as he'd never been to the Niagara Butterfly Conservatory I said we should go (I've been before with my kids). As they are closed... more »

We love the Butterfly Conservatory and look forward to going when we visit Niagara Falls. We've had wonderful experiences with holding and feeding birds and we got to touch a large iguana that was free-roaming while we were there. The nocturnal exhibit is one of my favourites as I love bats and skunks but the whole experience is amazing. We always take our time to look for the different species of birds and just observe them. I would highly recommend you visit at least once.

The place is actually inside the botanical garden area so if you are here then you'll be able to check out on everything. I think for the conservatory, admission is around 20cad per person. You'll get to watch this brief documentary at the beginning and it was pretty neat about how they do everything in the conservatory. Then after watching the documentary, we'll finally enter the conservatory. It's not really big. It's an okay size. I think you'll have some fun here and I appreciate that staff hard work in maintaining their job working inside the dome, maintaining its humidity. But the only reason why I put a four stars here is because there's no detail information which butterfly is which. They should have put info either on the wall with colors of butterfly is this or that species, or may be use some QR code scan around the area to inform us. Other than that, it was great experience.
