The Cumberland Museum and Archives is located in the heart of the historic Village of Cumberland on Vancouver Island.

The Cumberland Museum features an extensive photo library including Japanese plate glass photos, films and research materials, a walk through replica coal mine, BC Tel exhibit, women's history exhibit and information on the rich Chinese and Japanese Communities who once made Cumberland their home.

The Cumberland Museum hosts several annual events to celebrate the fascinating history of the Village including Lunar New Year, Worker's Day Bean Supper, Miners Memorial Day, Women's History Month events, Foggy Mountain Fall Fair and more.

Cumberland was built on the blood, sweat and tears of coal miners and the labour history of the Village includes notable figures including Ginger Goodwin and Joe Naylor.

The men and women of early Cumberland fought to earn a basic living and for basic human rights and many paid for that fight with their lives. The Cumberland Museum is a tribute to the working men and women who built our community.

  • Lately I have been going to several museums and the prices are way up there for admissions. This place does not charge for children under 12. The price alone makes it family friendly . Interesting coal mine downstairs
  • Great place to bring visitors to the Comox Valley to share some of the history of this interesting community. As well as the museum take a walk up and down the main street and side roads and really enjoy the atmosphere.
