Nose Hill Park, Calgary

#7 of 53 in Parks in Calgary
Park · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Visit the second-largest urban park in Canada, Nose Hill Park, where the natural environment serves as a retreat from the city. The attraction has long been a favorite spot for viewing nature and wildlife, including bison that fill the grassy slopes each winter. Keep your eyes peeled for native plants in this 11 km (4 mi) park, like sage and parry oatgrass, or watch for animals, which span 198 species. Numerous hiking paths wind through the park (you may experience mild difficulty on the slopes). You can take your four-legged friends on the designated off-leash areas. See Nose Hill Park and all Calgary has to offer by arranging your trip with our Calgary sightseeing planning website.

  • Lovely place to go for a stroll, take the dogs for a walk, have a picnic, or just take some pictures. It's a great view of the city and amazing during sunset. The only thing I'd say is take a look at the map when first entering so you can exit the same way you came in otherwise you'll find yourself at the complete other end of the park at a different entrance.
  • I frequently visit the hill and I really enjoy it up there. I often see porcupines, coyotes and deer on my walks. Half of the hill is rather barren and should have some trees planted in my opinion. The other half is a lot nicer but has gravel piles and old concrete blocks from landscaping projects in some areas. Unfortunately the noise from the roads is still quite loud from the centre of the hill. Currently at the time I am writing this, the snow is melting and even the gravel paths have become inch-deep mud so maybe wait until it's less slippery to go on your walks.
