Preah Ko (Khmer: ប្រាសាទព្រះគោ, "The Sacred Bull") was the first temple to be built in the ancient and now defunct city of Hariharalaya (in the area that today is called Roluos), some 15 kilometers south-east of the main group of temples at Angkor, Cambodia. The temple was built under the Khmer King Indravarman I in 879 to honor members of the king's family, whom it places in relation with the Hindu deity Shiva.

  • A beautiful location, lots of history. Use a local guide. They know the story behind these historic places.
  • Most visitors to Angkor Wat probably don't even make it to the Roluos group of temples judging by the numbers here, but it makes for a peaceful and easy half day in comparison to the temples on the main circuits. Situated about 10km out from Siem Reap, most people come here by tuk tuk but we saw a few cyclists too. It's a busy main road so not for the nervous cyclist and you'll need to be acclimatised to the heat. Although the temples in this area are among the oldest and they are propped up by wooden and metal frames, there are some of the best preserved carvings and features here. Not a big temple, nothing to climb and above all, peaceful. Atmospheric and worth the trip. If you have a 3 day ticket, consider this as part of an easier 2nd day even if you aren't doing consecutive days.
