Edificio Martinelli, Sao Paulo

#65 of 1,156 in Things to do in Sao Paulo
Architectural Building · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
The first skyscraper to be built in Brazil, the brick and concrete Edificio Martinelli remains one of the most significant constructions in Sao Paulo. Inaugurated in 1929, the building is 130 m (427 ft) tall, and was once the tallest skyscraper in Latin America. The 26th floor serves as home to an elegant terrace and Italian-style villa, originally constructed by the Martinelli family as a residence in order to prove to locals that the building would not collapse. • The view is great. However, one needs to wait on the sidewalk for a long time to be able to access because only groups of 15 people can enter. Registration takes half an hour so generally it takes a lot of time to get inside.
  • Great views of the city, friendly English speaking staff. I recommend booking the tickets in advance using Sympa website (you might not be able to visit without one).
