Admire the colors and shapes of broken glass and ceramics built into Escadaria Selaron, a set of artistically renovated steps straddling Lapa and Santa Teresa neighborhoods. These 215 steps stretched over 125 m (410 ft) feature an explosion of colors built into mosaics by a Chilean-born artist. One of the most charming attractions of Rio de Janeiro, the steps have over 2,000 tiles. The author Jorge Selaron, a painter and sculptor, began the project in 1990 by renovating the dilapidated steps outside his house. Escadaria Selaron Reviews
Cet escalier est vraiment incroyable !! Une vraie œuvre d’art populaire à ciel ouvert. Je vous recommande de la visiter en descendant de haut en bas... c’est moins fatiguant mais aussi tout en bas se ... more »This staircase is really amazing!! A true work of popular open-air art. I recommend you visit it by going up and down... it's less tiring but also at the bottom is the show nail!!
Lieux mythique à voir absolument c’est assez jolie rien d’époustouflant mais intéressant comme endroit à visiter sur Rio de Janeiro more »Mythical places to see absolutely it's pretty pretty nothing stunning but interesting as a place to visit in Rio de Janeiro
It was a beautiful exhibit of tile art. There is so much to see. Some of the tiles are so detailed that if you go by to quick you'll miss something. Don't wander too far off of those steps because it starts to get a bit shady. Just be very aware of your surroundings down there so as not to get taken advantage of.
A beautiful work of art that symbolizes worldwide unity. A collaboration of people from all over the world donating tiles, throughout time, to a local artist help make this stairway and its borders possible. Not only is it colorful and pleasing for the viewer, but the deeper meaning of unity and togetherness resonates as you walk up the stairs. Tourists looking for tiles representing their nation or state, yet all on the same staircase at the same time highlighting that we are more similar than we are different. Well worth a visit!
