Barra da Tijuca Beach, Rio de Janeiro

4.6
With over 15 km (9 miles) of white sand met by clear, blue-green ocean, Barra da Tijuca Beach is the largest beach in Rio de Janeiro, and the farther along it you go, the more deserted it becomes. The agitated waters attract surfers, windsurfers, body boarders, kite surfers, and fishing enthusiasts, and there is a high energy about the busier stretch, where you will see young people playing beach volleyball and soccer. In need of refreshment, you should visit Pepe, named in honor of the late champion hang-glider and regular of Barra da Tijuca Beach, where you will find great sandwiches and fresh natural juices. The quieter sweep of beach provides you with a tranquil paradise, and while it may not have many facilities, nor does it have any crowds. • very quiet beach of atmosphere compared to the others, is less spacious than copacabana or ipanema, there is less commerce, which is appreciated, the sector in general is quiet, it is not so commercial. a lot of surf swell

  • We had doubts about the distance to Rio and its attractions... but the truth was that it was the best choice. Wide beaches and fine sands, sea a little bravo for children but for adults this excellent. Few vendors, lots of security and tranquility. Excellent gastronomy for all tastes and budgets.

  • Excellent location. Barra da Tijuca Beach doesn't get the fame as much as Ipanema and Copacabana. Those two are understandably packed, dirty, and the risk of being robbed very real. It's Rio de Janeiro after all. And these reasons make Barra da Tijuca Beach is the next best thing. It's the same ocean with the same temperature with the same, but cleaned sand. You won't be disappointed.
  • Very large beach, usually a bit less crowded than the better known ones.
