Sono Beach, Paraty

#3 of 124 in Outdoors in Paraty
Beach · Nature / Park
Flanked by a lush wall of rainforest and with golden sands that stretch as far as your eye can see, Sono Beach is a deserted paradise well removed from the bustle of Rio. You can reach it by boat or take a 50-minute trek from Vila do Oratório, encountering monkeys and toucans along the way. Emerging from the forest on to the beach, you will be blown away by its sublime beauty. The beach remains unspoiled with very little infrastructure, despite a small fishing community who have made it their home, but you will find a few kiosks whose owners will tell you stories of the island from times gone by. Casa da Empada, in particular, serves great sandwiches and cold beer, which you can enjoy under the shade of an almond tree while looking out over the translucent green-blue ocean. From the small church in the middle of the beach, you can take a 20-minute trail leading to natural pools and waterfalls, perfect for some scenic swimming. Put Sono Beach and other Paraty attractions into our Paraty online route planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Great hike and good reward after it. Nice beach
  • Beautiful beach! I took the bus from the central station in Paraty going to Vila Oratorio. I got down in the last stop, that's where the hike starts. There're signs. Took me almost 1 hour to get to Praia do Sono, it was really hot and the path goes up and down. Can be slippery in some parts. Beware of snakes, spiders and scorpions (there's even a sign about it). I just saw a dead snake in the path. I had lunch in the only place open. It was good. Guess that low season has something to do with it cause there's plenty of bars/restaurants in the shore. There's also camping sites, it's a great option to stay here longer and explore nearby beaches. There's also a 5 nights hike, camping along the way and bringing your own food. The sea had waves, and it was fun! Be conscious about your level in the water as there's no lifeguards or whatsoever. I loved the fact there were few people. Definitely worth coming here for an entire day or more!! I 😊😁😄 I went back hiking, but I saw people taking a boat
