Duna do Por do Sol, Jericoacoara

#2 of 35 in Nature in State of Ceara
Must see · Geologic Formation · Nature / Park
The constant wind of the Duna do Por do Sol makes the small fishing village and National Park of Jericoacoara one of the best places in the world for windsurfing and sailing. As you head out wearing comfortable shoes across the high dunes, you'll notice lagoons created by the rainwater and shaped by the constant winds. A fun, adventurous way to see the dunes and much of the National Park is to rent a dune buggy that can take you to more of the fresh water lagoons than any other transportation vehicle.

If you venture further into the dunes, you'll find larger lagoons and small rivers running as far as the eye can see in valleys formed between the dunes peaks. The bottom of the pools is soft and sandy, which makes them excellent for wading, swimming, and water sports. As the sun begins to set--a sunset that most remark is the most beautiful sunset in all of Brazil--you'll notice people sliding down the dunes seated on objects that resemble snow sleds, called ski-bunda, or "butt-skiing." • If you spend some days in Jeri, you should live this experience. Go on the top of this dune and enjoy the sun going down. Around you people dancing, music playing and personally I felt like in the...  more »
  • The view is beautiful especially with the kite surf show. A lot of people but much less if you walk until the opposite side. Very windy up there, mind your hats  more »
  • Nice view , in the night everybody comes sit on the dune to see the sun disapear.Of you stay to long there it might get boring in jeri depending how you want to spend your vacation, My phone was stoles also...but some good and nice support from police here even if it didnt bring my phone back. But advice is to stay for not to long and just enjoy a few days of beach and restaurants and maybe find some of the live music party's that are there sometimes in the night. And watch out for the little fish there between the rocks....it hurts like crazy, worst pain ever on my body that dont kill you
