Due to its soaring sand dunes and stellar waves, Joaquina Beach is one of the best and most legendary surfing beaches in the country, and perhaps the world. During summer, which is from December to February in Brazil, this beach is extremely busy with bronzed bodies and cars trapped in traffic jams just to spend a little bit of time on the sandy white beach. The winter in Brazil, around June through August is the best time for surfing on the waves that reach up to 2.5 m (8 ft) high.     Joaquina Beach was our first stop. We arrived around 10 and paid 20 BRL to park in a lot beside the stores. It was a Saturday and the beach was already active. We walked up and back and then climbed.....  more »
