Extremely photogenic Catedral de Pedra is one of Brazil’s finest examples of the English Gothic architectural style. This Cathedral of Stone, as its name literally translates from the Portuguese, features a tower rising 65 m (213 ft) into the air, and includes a carillon of 12 bronze bells imported all the way from Italy. The interior is decorated with painted canvases created by the gaucho artist Marciano Schmitz, who used three panels to depict the sacred "Apparition of Our Lady." Also included are several paintings by Uruguayan artist Pablo Herrera, noted for using wood and clay in his works. Try to time your visit for the evening hours, when the building becomes the centerpiece of a colorful light show. It was only too bad that I couldn't make it to the night when they say that it is even more beautiful illuminated with several colors, because it has many stained glass windows. When you return to the city of Canela, I will definitely stay until nightfall to also see this gothic-style church beauty.

Located in the city centre of Canela, it is seen and admired from afar. The great Idealizer of the church was the Canon John Marchezzi. He is buried inside the church, where his faithful to this day leave flowers. This church has a tower with 65 meters high, and a chime of 12 bronze bells. You can view your tower from various points of the city! It's beautiful!
