Must see · Church · Architectural Building
Catedral Sao Paulo Apostolo - Igreja Matriz is very different from traditional churches, exhibiting more modern architecture. Opened in 1958 and designed by Gottfried Boehm, the church has a tower 45 meters (148 feet) high and three electronic bells. It was built with stones of red granite and stained glass windows that produce a brilliant light and colors. At the entrance, you will be greeted by a cedar carving depicting Our Lady, Christ Crucified, San Jose, and the Paschal Lamb. Symbolically, they represent family, forgiveness, community, and sacrifice. Once inside, two rows of white pillars on either side welcome you to rest and reflect. • Smack dab in the middle of Blumenau, only a stone's throw away from the River Itajai, this church is punctuated by a large brick tower which has long been one of the city's symbols.  more »
  • Beautiful modern cathedral, very pleasant ambient, spacious, attended mass - they have quite a few times during the day, enough space for a few hundred to sit.  more »
