Calle Sagarnaga, La Paz

#12 of 176 in Things to do in La Paz
Landmark · Tourist Spot
The city’s main tourist strip, Calle Sagarnaga caters to the traveling crowd, as it boasts restaurants, souvenir and craft shops, and tour agencies galore. Nicknamed gringo alley, this street has historic roots as the main thoroughfare for visitors. During the colonial period, travelers passing from Potosi and the Peruvian coast often stayed the night along this street. Some of the buildings that now house hotels were originally built as accommodations for these travelers visitors in the eighteenth century. If you’re looking for souvenirs, start here; try haggling for the best price.
