Isla del Sol, Copacabana

Must see · Hiking Trail · Island
Explore Inca ruins and enjoy phenomenal scenery at Isla del Sol. A highlight of Lake Titicaca, this "Island of the Sun" is dotted with more than 80 ruins across its 70 sq km (27 sq mi) terrain. The rocky island has no roads or cars, so you'll have to hike or catch a boat to get from one side to the other. Whichever method you choose will be worth it, allowing you to discover the fascinating scenery the island has to offer. According to local legend, the sun was born here, and it definitely hasn't gone away yet. Bring water, food, and plenty of sunscreen before you set out on your journey. Also, make sure you carry some cash, as you'll have to pay local people a small toll for passing through their land. Make Isla del Sol part of your personalized Copacabana itinerary using our Copacabana trip planner.

  • The waters by the jetty was so blue and the climb up to the top was great with lovely flowers along the way. Views from the top was beautiful. A must visit.  more »
