#1 of 8 in Historic Sites in Thimphu
Located on the city's northern edge near the Wangchhu River, Tashichho Dzong (Thimpu Dzong) has served as the seat of Bhutan's civil government and the summer capital since the inception of its monarchy. First constructed in 1216, the dzong has experienced constant changes, renovations, and enlargements throughout its history, combining religious and governmental facilities into one. Towers punctuate the fortress-like structure, while the manicured gardens and lawns complement the impressive building. Wear proper clothing during your visit or you may be asked to leave. • Beautiful and Gorgeous, the gateway to Bhutans cultural heritage. This is resting place of 108 brave soldiers who laid their life fighting the insurgents. A brilliant monument from where we can see the three directions of China..Nepal and India. A must visit for people visiting Bhutan.
  • A wonderful Dzong. Dzong are basically administrative places where the locals get their municipal work done. This Thimphu Dzong has even had the king visit frequently and has separate entrance for the King. Firstly if it's not a weekend do confirm the timings as during office hours tourist entry is prohibited. Second after taking a Rs. 300 ticket ensure you have a guide to take you in otherwise the security won't let you. Photography is not allowed in the temples , better to ask the guide where just to make sure . It's a worth visit . Visiting one Dzong as per me will do rest Dzong are about the same.
