Housed inside the Zonnebeke mansion, Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 pays homage to the half million people who fell in battle on this site in 1917. View the exhibits in the museum showcasing material findings from the Battle of Passchendaele, including uniforms, supplies, and weapons. Take a walk through the recreated trenches and shelter, and discover the personal stories of the men who fought there. There is also an exhibit on the history leading up to the battle and the battle's consequences. When you stand on the quiet battlefield, remember that it is the site of one of the greatest number of losses during World War I. This tragedy is commemorated with a work of art by Helen Pollock made of the clay from the battlefield and displayed in the museum. Purchase your self-guided tour tickets when you arrive at the museum, but book a guided tour by email at least four weeks in advance. • Hadn't planned to visit this museum when we planned our trip to Belgium, just happened upon a sign on the road and decided to go there. Excellent decision. Not only is there a substantial amount to see here (the indoor exhibitions, the underground and outdoor trench experience) and all very well put together with an extremely informative and comprehensive audio guide. Just to too it off, there is also a beautiful gardens and lake to walk around outside with various memorials. Highly recommend going here, certainly worth the €10.50pp entry fee all day long.
  • Tasteful and very educational museum that treats the subject matter with due respect and interest. Well thought out exhibits and a well presented audio guide presents a great experience for visitors of all ages. Beautiful parkland surrounds the museum and there's both a Cafe and a picnic area available. Parking is free and plenty.
