Trip Planner: Europe / Belgium / Flanders / West Flanders Province / Ieper (Ypres) / In Flanders Fields Museum
Delve into the history of World War I and the fighting that took place in Belgium at In Flanders Fields Museum. Named for the famous poem "In Flanders Fields" by Canadian soldier John McCrae, the museum aims to bring the human experience of war to the forefront. The museum is on the second floor of the Cloth Hall, a building that was fittingly destroyed during the war and has been reconstructed. When you arrive, you'll receive a poppy bracelet loaded with four personal stories to guide you through the museum and give a face to the war. Through these individual accounts of life during war, personal items such as diary passages and historical narrative, you'll have the opportunity to see the war as a human experience. In Flanders Fields Museum Reviews
You cannot help but be moved by the personal stories told in this excellent museum. Probably not one for really young children but a truly excellent museum. Very good value for money. Well recommended more »
Ruim opgezette grote tentoonstelling over het ontstaan en verloop. Met moderne hulpmiddelen is een wat gepersonifieerde rondleiding in eigen taal. Vooral de audiovisuele presentaties maakten indruk op... more »Large exhibition about the origins and progression. With modern tools is a somewhat personified tour in own language. The audiovisual presentations were especially impressed by me. Bizarre how a war expired over 100 years ago. Also shows the very limited tools attn Communication and MN The vulnerability in primitive trenches. Visit necessary as a good preparation countless locations in the area that are worth a visit. For young and old.
You got to follow real WWI stories that are personalized to your age and country of origin, making the experience more personal. This museum showed both sides of the war, which isn't always the case, so I enjoyed that. The museum was in the old cathedral, also giving it a cool atmosphere
Very good museum. Interactive and informative displays. Everything is signed in four languages. The interactive displays can be personalised to your own name and country. For a small extra charge it is possible to climb the bell tower-well worth the cost but not for the faint hearted!
