Maison d'Erasme, Brussels

4.4
Follow the footsteps of one of Europe's greatest humanists at Maison d'Erasme, preserving rare editions of Erasmus' writings. The Renaissance scholar stayed at this house for five months in 1521, using it as a tranquil base for his visit to Anderlecht. One of the city's hidden gems, the brick house features Flemish paintings and several priceless manuscripts. A place of pilgrimage for hard-core admirers of Erasmus, the small museum remains refreshingly free of big tourist crowds, so you can tour the house and explore the medicinal gardens at your own unhurried pace. • This is one of the hidden pearls of the capital city. A charming historical domain and so many interesting reminiscences to the great humanist... Intimate, not too big, not too crowded...

  • Gorgeous ancient house and garden in the unlikely borough of Anderlecht, better known for football than culture... Don't miss their very interesting conferences, concerts and exhibitions.
  • The 500 year old house is packed with old paintings, furniture and books. Most from the time period. Extremely beautiful and pristine with only a few visitors when I went on a Tuesday.
