Magritte Museum, Brussels

4.0
#6 of 89 in Museums in Brussels
Dedicated to studying and displaying the work of Rene Magritte, Magritte Museum combines education with exhibits. The collection is one of the largest and most diverse of Magritte's work and took many years, and many donations, to collect. Magritte's paintings, drawings, posters, and advertising work fill the walls with surreal images. These artworks are arranged by period on three floors spanning from 1898 to 1967 and Magritte's later "Enchanted Domain" periods. Your tour ends in a cinema that screens both films inspired by Magritte's work and films he enjoyed. Book tickets online or purchase them when you arrive, but be aware that with a reserved ticket you use the Place Royale entrance, whereas if you are purchasing a ticket, enter from the Rue de la Régence. Consider purchasing a combination ticket that includes all the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. • Was very nice- the audio guide was worth it but not free (the entry was also expensive- probably overpriced). Like others mentioned- the lighting was very awkward. I would recommend it nevertheless as...  more »
  • A very nice and well made museum. Unfortunately, his most famous paintings are not in the museum. There was a slight problem with the lighting of some polished paintings.

  • This is a wonderful museum with such interesting art, created by the fabulous Magritte. Every piece is striking and thought-provoking. Love the low light as it helps capture the pieces, and also helps reduce noise from chatters (The darkness really has this effect). The shop is wonderful, I only wish there were more posters to choose from, as there was one I was really after. I highly recommend this museum!
  • Magritte museum is without a doubt one of the most interesting museums I've visited. The works of Magritte are both unique and interesting on many levels. The art range is wide and really encourages the viewer to think. They also have a film that is very rich of information about Magritte's birth and life. Very recommended for anyone interested in arts.
