Discover Michelangelo's world-famous sculpture, "Madonna and Child," in Church of Our Lady Bruges. Michelangelo created the sculpture, carved from white marble, in about 1504, and it found its home in this church in 1514. With a tower 122.3 m (401.25 ft) tall, the ornate church is the tallest building in the Bruges. Along with "Madonna and Child," the church features many works of religious art, as well the tombs of several prominent figures in the city's history. You can admire the bronze effigies of Valois, Duke of Burgundy, and his daughter, Duchess Mary, alongside the tomb of Charles the Bold. more »Church of the Roman Catholic Church built in the thirteenth-15th century. There is a mausoleum of Charles lunging and daughter Marie of the Principality of Burgundy. The church has a marble "Madonna statue" created by Michelangelo, but it is not possible to go to the front of the statue because it is undergoing renovation. However, I was able to confirm the modeling because the replica is exhibited in an easy to see place.
A must visit church when visiting Bruges. Wonderful architecture great for photos. There is a lot of renovation work going on at the moment, hopefully this will preserve the church for many more centuries to come. We visited in low season so not as many visitors. We would definitely visit again if we find ourselves in Bruges once more.
This is a beautiful church. It has a wheelchair ramp for accessibility and the works of art in there are amazing! It also has an entrance to a museum which you have to pay to enter, but the church itself is free.
