Gain an appreciation for the history of printing at Museum Plantin-Moretus. Housed inside the former residence and printing house of one of Belgium's great printers, the museum was formerly Plantin Press, where Christophe Plantin and Jan Moretus produced some of the country's earliest printed materials. The museum's history, as well as its collection of typography, has garnered it World Heritage Site recognition. The press itself opened in the 16th century and continued to function until the 19th century, printing texts and books as well as advertisements and art prints. You can discover some of the rare printed artworks in the print room exhibit. Presses and other tools of the trade are exhibited as if waiting to begin work the next morning. Rent an audioguide during your visit to get more insight into the exhibits on your self-guided tour. Definitely one of its kinds museum. If the world of printing fascinates you and you would love to know about printing and look into the oldest printer, you should not miss it. Even if you have one day in Antwerp, this should be on your list. Just plan it in the first half of the day because it closes at 5 p.m. I quite liked the look and feel of the place, right from the entrance. Helpful staff.
If you only have one day in Antwerp, this museum is worth your time. The staffs were really professional, helpful and friendly. They know how to do customer satisfaction in the whole level. The collection is super complete. One hour is not enough for extensive visit. You need at least one hour.
