A museum and monument, MAS - Museum aan de Stroom celebrates the city of Antwerp. Focusing on themes of power, life and death, and metropolis, the museum explores the city's history and position as an important international port. Committed to embracing new media, the museum lets visitors scan QR codes on most objects to hear background information in several different languages. The building is designed to resemble boxes stacked in a spiral tower, and it offers great views of the city. Take the escalator up to the ninth floor, and enjoy views through glass walls as you make your way to the top. MAS - Museum aan de Stroom Reviews
Heb niet alles kunnen zien jammer genoeg. Maar zal zeker terug gaan om verder alles te zien. Elk kunstwerk die ik zag blijft mij verbazen en inspireren. more »Haven't been able to see everything unfortunately. But will definitely go back to see everything else. Every piece of art I saw continues to amaze and inspire me.
Auch wenn man nicht ins Museum direkt geht, ist der Besuch sehr empfehlenswert. Man gelangt kostenlos auf die höchste Ebene und hat einen tollen Ausblick more »Even if you don't go directly to the museum, the visit is highly recommended. You get to the highest level for free and have a great view
I really enjoyed this museum. It's free to visit the roof and the first floor but around €8 to view the whole museum. Each floor took me about 20-30 minutes and there were around 6. They cover completely different and interesting topics and exhibits, one on the history of celebrations was particularly interesting and showed some traditional Belgian celebrations. Definitely worth a visit, the building is very unique with its curved windows.
Architectural building housing a somewhat random collection of exhibitions on each floor. The building itself is worth the visit which you can access for free along with the roof panorama. The exhibitions cost €10 pp for all of them which is fine but there doesn’t seem to be much of a link between the exhibitions on the different floors apart from a casual link to Antwerp itself. I didn’t really get a feeling of the city’s history. One floor was completely closed. Some of the exhibitions were more art installations than museum exhibits. The exhibitions are also fairly small as a good chunk of floor area on each level is taken up by escalators and a viewing area (Which does give great views of the city at each turn) leaving only about 1/2 - 2/3 of the floor space for exhibitions. There isn’t much English on the exhibits either, a little bit here and there. Everything in Dutch (of course) with some French and a bit of German, again totally random, no continuity? English Translations are available on each floor if you wish. However still a good place to spend a couple of hours on a cold rainy day. Look for the skull mosaic in the square as you ascend the building.
