National Art Museum of Azerbaijan is the biggest art museum of Azerbaijan. It was founded in 1936 in Baku and in 1943 was named after Rustam Mustafayev, a prominent Azerbaijani scenic designer and theater artist. The museum consists of two buildings standing next to each other. The museum's total collection includes over 15,000 artworks. There are over 3,000 items in 60 rooms on permanent display. About 12,000 items are kept in storage. The museum changes the exhibits periodically so that more of these artworks can be displayed temporarily.
In 1936, the Council of People's Commissars decided to separate the Art department from the Azerbaijan State Museum and organized it as an independent museum. Expeditions provided the museum with the first exhibits. In addition, other exhibits were purchased. The opening ceremony of the museum’s first exhibition was organized in 1937 and in 1951, the building of the museum was replaced with the Baroque-style De Bour mansion built at the end of the 19th century.
In 2006, the building was thoroughly reconstructed and the opening of a new exhibition took place in 2009. In 2011, the museum was declared to be of first National and then European Museum Standard (EUMS), meeting international standards and criteria, as appropriate for a museum and implying high quality museum services and professional experience; this was by unanimous decision of the Council of Directors of the European Economic Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry – EEIG - located in Brussels.

  • The art Museum of אזרבייג׳ן consists of two ancient buildings that have modern glass linking the buildings in the first building of local art of the Muerbig painters and Russian painters. In the second building, the eastern arts-Persia, Turkey, China, Japan, the Netherlands, for each country, is dedicated to a room or years as needed. In the rooms you can see paintings, porcelain, colourful porcelain, and there are also rotating exhibitions this month is presented in a exhibition of German art. Compared to the Museums Art Museum in the beginning of my career, he was disappointed.

  • I went here on a spur of the moment day when I wanted some culture about Baku, Azerbaijan. I was impressed with amount of pieces they have to offer. to get in I paid 10 Manat and to take pictures it was an additional 5 Manat. I paid as I was on vacation and in a good spirit. I loved this place because of the unique pieces of sculptures. They also had a Japanese exhibit which was interesting and nice. it was nice and quiet, a bit warm inside in some areas but a good experience. you will see a lot of Italian and British art.
  • A must see for art lovers in Baku. Each floor is elegantly housed to art collections from around the world, as well as a vast collection dedicated to Azerbaijan history and culture. Dutch, German, and French art collection is simply breathtaking
