Gandzasar Monastery, Aghdara

A masterpiece of Armenian religious architecture, Gandzasar Monastery treasures relics attributed to St. John the Baptist and his father Zechariah. Surrounded by walls that enclose monk cells, the monastery serves as the seat of the Archbishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The cathedral dates back to the 13th century and boasts elaborate bas-reliefs. Notice the images of Adam and Eve, the crucifix, and the depiction of two priests offering a model of the church to God. • Occupied Karabakh I advise tourists to stay away from the occupied territory KARABAKH IS internationality recognised as Azerbaijan’s land.
  • I would suggest not to come to the occupied territories of Azerbaijan because it is a forbidden zone and any violation of regulations will result you having serious consequences. By the international community such as UN have warned people to stay out of conflict zones. it is not acceptable to travel illegally into Azerbaijani territory.
