See the first steam train to run in the country, learn about the development of the piano, and explore large-scale exhibits featuring a steel-melting crucible, carriages, planes, and helicopters at Technisches Museum Wien. Opened in 1918, the museum has a large collection of technology and interactive displays in permanent exhibitions, including those about nature, heavy industry, energy, everyday life, communications, musical instruments, transport, and research. Explanations are provided in German and English, and the museum is wheelchair accessible. Take a break to enjoy a snack at the cafe on site, and be sure to check the website for information about which areas are under renovation prior to your visit. One of the best Museums I have ever been to, and mind you, I am a biologist, rather interested in wildlife and nature, visited with a baby and a toddler. This museum has everything to offer for every age group and interest - transport, production and mining, everyday objects, electricity, human body, computer design, high-tech lab and even two playgrounds for the smallest ones, the opportunities are endless and for two visits we still haven't seen it all and will be coming back! Loads of interactive exhibits, bilingual explanations, great fun. Highly recommend!
One of the best museums in Vienna. The museum features many interactive exhibits and is great for kids and adults alike. There is also a kids play area inside. Come early to avoid crowds. The museum's cafe can get busy during peak hours, so bring your own snacks just in case.
