  • Who doesn't know "the 4 seasons" of Vivaldi-the ensemble depicted in his honor, however, seems very clunky in execution

  • Antonio Lucio Vivaldi was an Italian Baroque musical composer, virtuoso violinist, teacher, and priest. Born in Venice, the capital of the Venetian Republic, he is regarded as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe. He composed many instrumental concertos, for the violin and a variety of other instruments, as well as sacred choral works and more than forty operas. His best-known work is a series of violin concertos known as the Four Seasons.
  • When visiting Votivkirche, it is worth walking around back to Votivpark where you can find an interesting monument to Antonio Vivaldi. Erected in 2001 the monument is the work of Venetian sculptor Gianni Aricò. Here you will see a sculptural arrangement of three female musicians made of Carrara marble. In contemporary fashion, the figures and instruments are simple and in places rough in form. However, there is more detail in the faces, an through use of nice curves, you can feel the passion they have for the musical piece they are playing. In front of the three musicians is a small block with a bronze portrait medallion of Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). This is an interesting monument that can be easily viewed before or after your visit to Votivkirche. If you enjoy monument viewing, there are a handful of other interesting sculptures and memorials on the other side of the church in Sigmund Freud Park just a couple minutes walk from here.
