Until 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m. you can drive directly to the restaurants on the lake to the parking lot, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. you can only get to the lake from Tannheim (about 4 km) or with the Bimmelbahn (certainly also a nice experience). During our visit (August 2019) we wanted to go around the lake once, unfortunately it was closed at one point after a rock fall. Since we were travelling with a 3-year-old child, we stuck to the barrier and went back before we went the other way around the lake to the Vilsalpe. However, many hikers and cyclists ignored the closure, so it is assumed that it is possible to pass despite the closure. The path around the lake is flat and suitable for bollards or strollers. The views of the mountains, waterfalls and the lake are just so incredibly beautiful that a visit is absolutely worthwhile. We took a break in the Vilsalpe. Delicious, simple food lured us and we were not disappointed. We then went on to the Bergaicht waterfall. The way there is no longer suitable strollers. But with small children quite feasible. Sometimes it is necessary to hold, but climbing something over stones is quite fun for children. The closer you get to the waterfall, the narrower and more sloping the path becomes. At the end you have to go up a narrow path through bushes. But the way is really worth it. If you want to go the circular route, which we have done, you still have to cross the creek, which emerges from the waterfall. This can be a wet affair, because the path is not clearly recognizable, and you simply have to look for a crossing over stones and through the stream. But the subsequent way back to Vilsalpe is very worthwhile, as it leads over picturesque mountain meadows with small streams and still great views. Absolutely worthwhile.
