Plan my day in Salzburg using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Inspirock.
The Museum der Moderne Mönchsberg is picturesquely situated high above the rooftops of the old town of Salzburg and offers new, contemporary architecture for large-scale exhibitions and presentations of the museum's own holdings an international context. The museum offers an ideal setting for presentations of the museum’s own comprehensive collection and large-scale temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art.
The Museum der Moderne Rupertinum, a baroque town palace built by the archbishops, located in the immediate vicinity of Festival Hall and Cathedral precinct, has been adapted for the presentation of modern art. The two buildings of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg offer 3.000 m2 of exhibition space for thematic and monographic exhibitions of 20th and 21st centry art, as well as presentations of graphics and photography.
Museum der Moderne Monchsberg reviews
You can see the building up the mountain from Old Town and from there you can take the lift right up to the museum. It's a museum with a couple of exhibitions of different artists, I had not heard of.... more »
Absolutely unacceptable experience. We went to the museum, paid our entrance fee, went round the museum and there was a lift to leave the building. We took it and were told it was 4 euros per person..... more »
Great! Came here for the cafe only. Of all the things I will remember about my day in Salzburg, the views from this cafe will be the top memory. Drinks were good too, as well as the walk to get here from the fortress.
View: Panoramic. Art: Modern. The stark brutalist architecture is the perfect platform to display installations of such calibre. All installations here are temporary, so if you are planning a visit make sure to check the website first. This aspect is perfect for return visits as your experience will be different every time. Another positive for my visit was that the main exhibition was advertised throughout the city. Even if you are not a fan of modern art, the view from the top is worth it! Single entry to this museum is included on the Salzburg Card, which grants access to many other attractions within the city and is definitely worth a purchase.
