Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme, Salzburg

#15 of 40 in Historic Sites in Salzburg
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Pause in the center of Salzburg to admire Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme, a courtyard with an 18th-century fountain. The fountain, featuring a statue of Neptune on a seahorse, was built in 1732 on the site where a horse pond had stood since the Middle Ages. Historical buildings like a cathedral, St. Peter's monastery, and old mills surround the square. Snap some pictures with the sea god, find a spot to sit and people-watch, or join a game of oversized chess.
