Dom zu St. Jakob, Innsbruck

4.5
Visit the canopied tomb of Archduke Maximilian III at Dom zu St. Jakob, the 18th-century Baroque cathedral dedicated to the apostle Saint James. Built between 1717 and 1724, the cathedral, with its lavish Baroque interior, is known for the painting Maria Hilf by Lucas Cranach the Elder. Considered one of the most venerated Marian images in the Christendom, it hangs above the main altar of the cathedral. Heavily damaged during World War II, the cathedral was eventually restored and features detailed artwork, sculptures, and a carefully-crafted pipe organ. Be sure to go on a guided tour to learn more about the historical background of the cathedral. • Lovely and so nice to hear the bells as you wander thru Innsbruck! Its architecture and beauty are worth the visit.  more »
  • The cathedral is really beautiful and evocative, it is worth a visit even just for an artistic and tourist talk. You can also follow and participate in the Mass (times are also present on the site of the cathedral) unfortunately only in German. It is easily accessible as the square is located just behind the famous Golden Roof.

  • Lovely church decorated lavishly in baroque style. The organ is particularly beautiful. Well worth a visit and close to old town
  • It was under renovation when we visited this Baroque style church, entrance is free but if you're taking photos remember to pay ( or offer as I prefer calling it ) 1€. It's worth it. The church is located at the Old town part of Innsbruck, it has an amazing interiors, frescos on the ceiling, the marble pillars, the organ and the dome that illuminates the altar. An impressive church !!
