It overlooks the Tasman Sea from the top of Flagstaff Point, directly east of the city centre. Wollongong is the only place in the east of Australia to have two lighthouses located in close proximity of each other, the other being Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse. To visit Wollongong Head Lighthouse and get the most from your holiday in Wollongong, create itinerary details personal to you using our Wollongong travel planner.

A further hazard to shipping is an island group known collectively as The Five Islands lying a short distance off the coast.

This is a lovely place for a family picnic or a day trip. Great views out to the ocean and over Wollongong Harbour and nearby beaches. Cafes and restaurants within a walking distance. Scenery from the Lighthouse is beautiful and is situated on a grassed area at the top of the hills, although access into the lighthouse is not allowed it is worth a visit just for the stunning views over the lovely sandy beach and the harbour. Adjacent to the lighthouse there are three cannons that are popular to sit on while having your photo taken. The little lighthouse is also a good walk and is just around the corner.

The view is beautiful. However, there are few constructions that might be a bother. There are plenty parking space and seating area to enjoy the view or to have a picnic
