Pine Lake reviews
One of the best ways in central Northern Tasmania to quickly get to the snow while staying on a good quality road without needing chains and/or a 4WD vehicle. The duck board walk to the lake is enchanting with the pine tree branches laden with snow and icicles and the lake itself freezes over (although not enough for ice skating unfortunately). It's also a great little walk during other seasons, but far more evocative under a layer of snow.
What a great and special spot. A 400 metre boardwalk, suitable for wheelchairs, allows the visitor to experience and explore this wild and rugged landscape without going on an extended bushwalk. This area also boosts an ancient and rare tree; the pencil pine which can only be found in the Tasmanian highlands. Allow about 30 minutes to stroll along the boardwalk, read all the interpretative signs and enjoy the lake. Be aware that the area is very exposed and weather may change quickly. This walk is also one of Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks.
