Hyde Park, Sydney

#7 of 101 in Parks in Sydney
Park · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Visit the oldest public park in Australia, Hyde Park. From the very early days of the colony, the open area was a top spot for sports such a cricket, rugby, and even organized bare-knuckle fights. Today, it remains an ideal spot for a morning jog or a stroll among fig-lined avenues in the park. The gardens are well-kept and home to approximately 580 trees. There are many monuments to stop and see, such as the Archibald Fountain, the ANZAC War Memorial, an obelisk with Egyptian features, and a monument to Captain James Cook. You can do what the locals like to do, grab a latte, people watch, or read a book on the grass. It couldn't be easier to arrange your visit to Hyde Park and many more Sydney attractions: make an itinerary online using Inspirock's Sydney day trip website.

  • Superb green space in the city. Well maintained, with some beautiful flower beds and magnificent large trees. A haven! Also contains a significant war memorial. A great park to either stroll through, picnic in or to just sit for a while.
  • Hyde Park is old af and has a beautiful charm to it. Lots of paths to lead you around and through, plenty of grass for mini picnics and lunch breaks. The sun shines everywhere but also it has plenty of shade and seating to relax and enjoy the space. Inside you will find the Archibald Fountain, ANZAC Memorial & Reflection pool and the Sandringham Memorial garden and fountain. A giant chess board and a few statues.
